Монетный двор Сингапура 23 июля 2014 года выпустит две серебряные монеты серии «Орхидеи».

Аверсы одинаковые: в центре изображен герб Сингапура, под которым указан год «2014». Слева и справа от него будут отчеканены иероглифы. Вверху и внизу полукругом расположат надписи «SINGAPURA», «SINGAPORE».

Монета «Целогина Рохуссена»
На реверсе в цвете будет изображен бутон и листья Целогины Рохуссена. Слева будет указан номинал «$5». Вдоль края монеты полукругом будут выгравированы надписи: «1 TROY OZ 999 FINE SILVER» и название вида орхидеи «COELOGYNE ROCHUSSENII».

Целогина Рохуссена — эпифитное растение, двулистные, длиной до 20 см. Цветонос гибкий, свисающий, с большим количеством прицветников. Цветки очень ароматные, лимонно-желтые, диаметром до 5 см. Цветет в феврале-апреле. Продолжительность цветения 4–6 недель. Родина — от Малайзии до о. Суматра.

Монета «Фаленопсис оленерогий»
На реверсе частично в цвете будут изображены бутон и листья фаленопсиса оленерогого. Слева будет указан номинал «$5». Вдоль края монеты полукругом будут выгравированы надписи: »1 TROY OZ 999 FINE SILVER» и название вида орхидеи «PHALAENOPSIS CORNU-CERVI».

Фаленопсис оленерогий — эпифитное трявянистое растение семейства Орхидные. Моноподиальное растение с сильно укороченным стеблем. Данный вид орхидеи распространен в Бирме, Индии, Индонезии, Лаосе, Малайзии, Таиланде, Вьетнаме и на Филиппинах.

Монеты по 5 долларов из серебра 999-й пробы (proof), имеют вес 31,10 г, диаметр 40,70 мм. Тираж каждой – 10 000 шт. Тираж набора — 3000 шт.

The Singapore Mint doesn’t release a large number of coins each year, but those they do produce are of a high quality and often have innovative packaging. This particular series, Native Orchids of Singapore, started back in 2011 and they were among the first to use the latex Nimbus frames to display the coins, something becoming more popular today. Now the series is on it’s fourth annual release and as before there are several ways to purchase them.

Released in batches of two coins per year, they’re described as a series “that celebrates the beauty of over 200 species of orchids that once thrived in Singapore, some of which are still found in our forests today”. Clearly, there won’t be a shortage of subjects anytime soon, at this rate for a century! They’re certainly pretty coins, well struck, and with the part ‘semi-rimless’ design having the artwork selectively pass over the rim and reach the very edge, have an almost three-dimensional quality to them. Available to purchase now, they start to ship on the 23 July.

The coins can be bought as a two-piece set in a rectangular latex ‘floating’ frame that’s been customised with a texture and with the name of the series highlighted in silver foil. Inside the frame and surrounding the coins is an insert carrying a simple countryside image of grass, insects and flowers. The whole is quite effective and 3,000 sets will be available.

The coin obverse bears the Singapore Arms with the year 2014. Each set comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Also carrying on from last year, the Singapore Mint has specially selected 500 of each of the two coins and had them slabbed in a similar way to that used by NGC and PCGS. The mint describes each coin as being chosen for “its superior proof quality standard”, so fairly safe to assume they’re ballpark with a 70-grade at the two big grading services. These are sold on a ballot scheme and tend to go quickly.

The two subjects for 2014 are:

• PHALAENOPSIS CORNU-CERVI is characterised by its star-shaped flowers, which are yellow with specks of deep maroon on them. The flowers measure about 3cm to 4cm in diameter and usually last for a long period of time. The Phalaenopsis cornu-cervi usually grows on trees in exposed lowland areas and can be found in many parts of South-East Asia.
• COELOGYNE ROCHUSSENII has pale yellowish-green flowers, with the sidelobes of its white lip containing brown pigments. The lemon-scented flowers measure about 5cm in diameter. Each hanging flower spray can reach 70cm long with more than 30 flowers. Its flowers usually bloom in the morning and close partially in the evening.

Китайский язык тесно связан с символизмом и двойственным смыслом. Из-за аналогично звучащих слов, в культуре Китая развивалась передача информации с помощью изображений, что позволял надежнее сохранить смысл. Подобные иллюстрированные сообщения могут быть легко понять в китайской и китайско-канадской культуре.

Аверс традиционный: портрет королевы Елизаветы II, окруженный надписями: «ELIZABETH II» и соответствующий номинал «5 DOLLARS 2014» или «50 DOLLARS 2014».

Реверс представляет пять животных, символизирующих пять традиционных Благословений китайской культуры: летучая мышь для счастья, олень для карьерного успеха, два журавля для долгой жизни и сорока для радости. В правой части монеты расположен китайский иероглиф — пожелание удачи. Иероглиф выполнен в красном цвете.

Blessings are an integral element of Chinese culture. In offering them with a coin, medal, or other traditional method of well-wishing, the giver expresses to the recipient a wish or hope for their future happiness.

Written and spoken Chinese lends itself particularly well to symbolism and double meaning. Through the graphic symbols of the written language and the overlap of similar-sounding words, the culture has evolved a tradition of employing letters, sounds, and images to convey robust messages with amplified meaning. These messages are readily understood within Chinese and Chinese Canadian culture.

This coin features a beautifully coloured and engraved design conferring upon its owner blessings of happiness, success, long life, joy, and good fortune.

This coin features a series of symbolic images representing the traditional Five Blessings of Chinese culture. In a polished crescent on the left side of the coin appear five animals that traditionally connote blessings, including a bat for happiness, a deer for career success, a crane for long life, and two magpies for joy. The right side of the coin is richly decorated with circular imagery overlaid with the Chinese symbol used to offer a wish for good fortune.

• The character for "good fortune" is not a formal or spoken word, but rather an ideogram used in some regions to convey a wish or hope for good fortune.
• The number "5" is considered to be of imperial significance and auspicious in Chinese tradition because of the central position of the 9 single digit numbers. "5" is usually used as the number for repeated designs or decorations used in the imperial court of China.
• The concept of "prospects" and the word for bat (fu) are homophones in spoken Chinese. The bat has thus become a well-known symbol for "good prospects."
• The notion of success, particularly emolument or success related to one’s salary, is homophonic with the word for deer in spoken Chinese (lu). The deer is thus used to connote the qualities of endurance, longevity, and grace that provide one with a positive position in life.
• The crane has long been associated with the notion of longevity in Chinese tradition. In art and literature, it is often portrayed in the presence of elders and gods and its white feathers recall the white hair of old age. As a long-lived bird with high status in Chinese imperial tradition, it is an ideal symbol for longevity.
• The word for "joy"—xi—is the first sound in the word for "magpie" (xi que), making the magpie a symbol associated with luck and happiness. When two magpies are portrayed facing one another, as on this coin, the recipient’s happiness is doubled.
